Purpose of the work was to determine the main trends in the change of regulatory requirements of the highest and mass categories of the Unified All-Union/All-Russian Sports Classification in sprinting for men and women.
Research methods. The study was conducted based on the regulatory requirements of the Unified All-Union/All-Russian Sports Classification in the period 1943 to 2025. The requirements for obtaining the titles of Master of Sports of International Class and Master of Sports of the USSR/RF, I and III adult categories in men and women 100 m and 200 m sprint.
Research results. In the studied types of sprint running, the standards for MS, I and III categories steadily increased until 1960-64, then the MS standard stabilized. The MSMK standard, introduced in 1965, slightly increased during the first 3 cycles in 1968-1976, then stabilized. For I and III mass categories, the standards began to steadily decrease from the mid-60s, with a steeper decline curve for women. At the same time, for both men and women, the standards for III decrease to a greater extent than for I category.
Conclusion. In the 100 m and 200 m sprints, each year there are increasing gaps in the requirements of the highest and mass categories of the EVSK. The systematic reduction in the normative requirements of the mass categories of the EVSK is an obvious indirect sign of problems with the development of the quality of speed and the implementation of speed abilities in the preparation of domestic sprinters at the initial stage of training.
