The research purpose is to theoretically develop and experimentally substantiate the effectiveness of the method for improving the backward balance turn in qualified gymnasts of 13-15 years old.

Methods and organization of the research. 20 qualified gymnasts were examined. In order to collect data on modern methodological approaches to improving the technique of back balance, interviews were conducted. To substantiate the reason for the discrepancy between the turn technique of qualified gymnasts and the model parameters, a biomechanical analysis of the turn technique in back balance was carried out. Based on the results of video analysis of the turning technique and the data from scientific publications, a method for improving the turning technique in the back balance is developed.

Research results and their discussion. The results of the biomechanical analysis of the indicators of the amplitude of movement in the joints of the gymnast's bodies allowed us to conclude that in the representatives of the experimental group (EG) and the control group (CG), the angles in the hip, ankle joints and the lumbar region are below the model parameters of the turn technique in the back balance.

Conclusion. As a result of the pedagogical experiment in EG, the amplitude of movement in the hip joint statistically significantly increased, and the technique of performing balance on the left leg improved by 0.6 points (P <0.05). The indicators of qualified gymnasts are significantly closer to the technical parameters of the model.
